Cascina Roera, Piemonte
The Estate
Cascina Roera is a chateau garage few km's south-east of Costigliole d'Asti between Langhe and Roero. The estate was founded in year 2000 by two friends who decided to put together the family vineyards to reach a miminial critical mass. Total surface is 7 ha's made of 65% Barbera, 18% Chardonnay, 10% Nebbiolo and 7% Arneis, Cortese and Freisa. Part of the vineyards are very old (about 60 years)
Philosophy
Wines has to express as much as possible the unicity of the place of origin; to reach this objective vineyards has to be conducted whitout any chemical anti-pest or synthetical drugs as well as the fermentation which has to be done with native yeasts and with minimal use of sulfites.
The People
Piero Nebiolo and Claudio Rosso both come from vignerons families. Claudio's father was one of the pioneers of bottled wines in the early 60's when the majority of the growers in the area were selling wine bulk. Piero has been involved in winemaking since he was a kid
