Il Carpino, Friuli Venezia Giulia

The Estate

“Il Carpino” is located in Friuli, north-east of Italy, on the border with Slovenia. Vineyards are in the area between Oslavia and San Floriano, which is considered one of the Grand Cru of Italy. Wines here – independently on the winemaking philosophy - express superb minerality, elegance and power altogether. Close to Il Carpino there are some of the most important Italian wine growers such as Josko Gravner, Stanko Radikon and Giorgio Bensa (La Castellada) just to enumerate some.

Philosophy

Wine is a combination of place and heritage. A good vigneron has to bring both into the glass

The People

Franco Sosol with his wife Anna and their sons Naike (27 y.o.) and Manuel (24 y.o.) manage every single step of the production, from vineyard planting and grafting up to bottling.
They have always been fond of wine and in the late 70’s they decided to devote their life to wine growing. They could buy some of the most perfect plot for vineyard planting together with an amazing vineyard of Malvasia Istriana planted in the late 40’s. The estate has been founded in 1980 and the first bottling has been done with vintage 1987.
