Castello di Monteacuto, Sardegna
The Estate
This estate has been founded in 1983 when Pietro Casu – a structural engineer - decided to plant 6 hectares of vineyards on the slopes of Mount Acuto, close to the village of Berchidda in the northern area of Sardegna (Gallura).
They have been selling grapes to the local community cellar until 2003 when they started the building of their own cellar. Today the estates consists of about 15 hectares with Vermentino, Carignan, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. The soils are made of sandstones deriving from the decomposition of granite bedrocks. The weather is dry and hot, with considerable night-day temperature excursion during the ripening period.
Philosophy
To enhance the aromatics coming from the interaction between the native grapes and the place.
The People
This winery is a family business: Pietro, the founder, together with his sons Roberto, Andrea and Valentina manage every single detail of the estate from vineyards planting to bottling.
